Thank you for all of the comments on my last entry. I was starting to think that no one was reading and was lacking a bit in the motivation to post, but apparently all I needed to do was request ’80s Cold War movie suggestions to draw everyone out. Now that I better understand my demographic, I can hone my craft.

phase two complete

Well, it has been a long 10 weeks since A-100 and, unlike many of my classmates, I have been in the exact same training that entire time: General Services Officer training. At long last, I am done with that and an official GSO course graduate.

There’s been a lot of watercooler talk around the State Department halls these days about upcoming changes in the fundamental framework of the Foreign Service. With Secretary Rice’s focus on Transformational Diplomacy and a new Director General (essentially the head of all matters HR in the State world), there is a big push to get Foreign Service Officers out of Washington and Western Europe and out into the more challenging parts of the world.

Leaving the nest

Although we’ve only been together for just over three months, the 129th has become a tight, party-ready, diplomatic force. And just like that, they’re making us split up in order to save the free world. In honor of the first of our group to take off we got together for one more crazy bash.
