Diversions of the moment

I’ve been a little more active on the computer lately. It’s probably because at the moment I’m only doing half day Russian classes and we’re at the very basic phase right now. As that picks up I’ll be much busier. (More on Russian in a later post.) While I have the time I’ve decided to do a bit more with the blog.

Blog Updates

I’ve added some Google ads to the sidebar. I don’t think they’re too intrusive and if I’m lucky they’ll help pay a little of the hosting fees. I’ve been happy to see that so far the main page has been showing an advertisement for “Inside a U.S. Embassy” which is a great primer for those interested in the Foreign Service. It’s published yearly by the American Foreign Service Association. I recommend checking it out (by clicking on my ad.)

I also added a link toward the bottom of the sidebar that lets you download Firefox. Overall, it’s a great web browser and highly customizable. If you’re tired of Internet Explorer or having trouble with Safari being supported, check it out.

Around the Web

For a quick take on the new Russian lessons, feel free to jump over to Patchwork Planet to check out Jennifer’s view. We’re in different classes, but doing basically the same thing. It was recommended to me that we not take language training together. They refer to it as a “marriage ender.”

A friend of mine from Portland is currently traveling around Eastern Europe and blogging her adventures. Court works for the best online travel site around — BootsnAll. It took her all of a day to end up in the Helsinki red light district. Awesome.

I had a recent comment on one of my entries from Lynn. She runs ClickNewz, a blog focused on the business side of blogging. It’s got some great information if you have ever hoped to make a little money off of the internet.

Want to have some fun? Head over to Wikimapia. Someone took the time to combine Google Earth with Wikipedia in order to come up a really fun map program. I can spend hours playing with maps. I’m a geek.
