Hi Shawn. I arrived here about 2.5 weeks ago and have been extremely, extremely busy. PC Ukraine is not a cake walk. Blogs are also a touchy topic, I’ll update mine when I get a chance.
I actually haven’t spent much time at all in Kyiv, but I’m in a sizable city about 1.5 hours north. People here are mostly rolling their eyes about the political situation, but it looks like there will indeed be new elections. I’m sure you’ve got your people informing you of the situation. We got an update from your future boss during our first few days of training. I’ll probably head into Kyiv in about a week to explore and see things for myself.
I don’t know if you’ve ever lived in a former Soviet state (I never have), but get ready for an experience. I wish I could see your face when you land at Borispol and walk around Kyiv the first couple days. But you can adjust pretty quickly. A lot of us have. It strange how quickly things can become normal…
Anyway, goodluck to you and your trip to Ukraine. They need a lot of help with many things here, and it sounds like you’re ready to help. Also, tell the wife to pack lots and lots of stilettos

The scale is a 5 point one with a 5 being native fluency (and pretty much impossible to get otherwise) and 1 being your basic tourist level of “Where is the toilet?” I’m somewhere in the middle.
We’ve already done most of our packing so the stilettos will have to wait until we arrive. I’m sure there will be plenty of fine stilleto dealerships in Kyiv.
