Marc's dad had the misfortune of being assigned to Iran in '79, and he ended up as one of the hostages that wasn't released until the very end. It was such a huge deal at the time, and really changed US-Iran relations forever, and yet there are very few people who are under 35 or so who even know it happened. *sigh* Sadly, most Americans have no idea how much work the FS does overseas. It’s definitely an event that very few people know about!
