Don’t even get the Communists started on Rambo…

Only 177.5 days to go. Not that anyone is keeping track…
Today I went to a local high school and spoke about the American Revolution. Schools and organizations in Kyiv regularly reach out to the embassy for guest speakers and this is one I volunteered for as I have an interest in American history.
We went to our first professional soccer football match last night. It was Dynamo Kyiv versus Arsenal all the way from jolly ol’ England. Although I enjoy football, we were mostly going to check out the crazy atmosphere and we weren’t disappointed.
I’m just now getting around to mentioning it, but we had another VIP visit last week. Actually, we had several, but I was only involved with the big one. VP Dick Cheney was in town (along with the missus) to illustrate America’s support for Ukraine and to indicate Russia should back the hell off already. Well, I don’t know if Cheney actually said that…but I think it was implied.
Today is our grumpy cat’s 9th birthday. To be fair, she used to be less grumpy in the pre-Doberman puppy days. For a present (since she doesn’t like any toys or food treats), I made her a custom comic strip using a fun new site I found called Strip Generator. This is probably only funny to Jennifer and myself.
Maggie’s recent comment on my blog made me realize I should do an entry on the issue of racism in Ukraine. It is a large, and growing, problem in this country and I have been asked about it by several different people. I am not an expert on the issue, but am happy to give my impression as someone here on the ground.
I can’t tell you how happy it makes me that someone found their way to my blog with the Google search “monkey riding weiner dog.” Unfortunately, said person also immediately left the site so apparently what I had to offer wasn’t what they were looking for.
Why must the Russians ruin things for everyone?
Olympic fever! You can catch it anywhere this year. On television, in print, even online with streaming video. Well, there are a few restrictions to watching it online.
