Hours of work finally pay off

One interesting thing about the Foreign Service lifestyle is how easy it becomes to spend money on things you just wouldn’t have before. Suddenly, we’re only 2 months away from our departure and we’ve started to feel like we really need things. Things that might have seemed frivolous before. But we’re giving up our American life and moving to a place where they don’t even speak English, for god’s sake, so I think we deserve whatever conveniences we can think of to take along with us.

That brings me to the big purchase I made yesterday. This is actually something that I’d been saving up for while working at The Container Store. I am the proud owner of a shiny new Viking sewing machine. And serger! They are so nice…I’ve been playing with them all day. They have so many functions, I actually get classes on how to use them. So that’s what I’ll be doing several evenings in March.

This is going to make spending time on Russian homework even harder….

Well, thank goodness for the English version of Ukrayinska Pravda! http://www.pravda.com.ua/en/ Gotta love the “English” button on all these foreign websites… Interesting that we don’t have the same thing here, eh?

Funny how moving 1/2 way across the world to a foreign country makes you give yourself “permission” to admit to those things you really want (and need)!
