We’re slowly getting settled. Of course, it’s much faster than the last overseas move (our final shipment of goods is arriving today, 19 days after our arrival, rather than the 3 months it took in Kyiv), but there’s still adjusting to do. We’ve spent the last two weekends exploring shopping options – there are at least 4 major options for grocery stores, all carrying a different assortment of items. And there’s been a lot of driving on the weekends, mostly for practice. I’ve finally gotten past the point where I think we’re going to die at least once per trip because omg, we’re on the wrong side of the road! Driving on the left side still just looks so wrong to me.
But all that driving means that we’ve gotten to some of the beaches on the western end of the island. Which is good because there are no tourists there. I have very quickly become tired of all the tourists in downtown Nassau. (A note to the lady tourists of The Bahamas: wearing your bikini to lunch in a restaurant is not acceptable. Never. I don’t care that you’re on vacation. No one looks good enough in a bikini to pull that off – you just look like an idiot.)
Here’s a couple shots of Jaws Beach and Flipper Beach:

Ahhhhh.
Don’t think it’s all beaches and sunshine – it’s still foreign, even if it sometimes feels like The Bahamas wants to be part of the US. The store we checked out on Saturday had been described to us as “wanting to be Walmart.” This turned out to be a very accurate description. From the store layout to the signage, if you squinted, you might just think you were in a Walmart. The bag looks just vaguely familiar, right?

Oh, and then there’s this fun going on downtown this week. I wandered into the masses of people yesterday, but I guess John’s not making an appearance until today.
