As an update to the post: The wall behind our building has now grown taller, and we've learned that construction is supposed to start soon in that area. This morning there's a protest since it will be destroying a sizable green space in the neighborhood. And it has also increased traffic congestion, since they didn't bother to make the now half street one way. So I spend most of the day listening to people laying on their horns as individual drivers try to sort out who gets to drive down the single lane of street first.</description>

		<description>I was told once that the chestnut trees in Kyiv aren't edible chestnuts (as they are in Germany).  That said, one of my favorite dishes in the entire world is roasted chestnuts, and I was sad about the fact that they don't eat them in Kyiv.

OH, and I totally agree with the changing seasons thing.  It, for me, was one of the hardest things about living in the Philippines.  The sun rose and set at the same time every day all year round (6-6!) and it was always hot.  I definitely love my fall.</description>
